Welcome to Gurdwara Bebe Nanaki Ji

Bebe Nanaki Ji was the elder sister of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Ji as well as a very prominent figure in Sikh History as she is credited as being the First Sikh. She recognised the significance of her brother's divinity and heavenly glow from his Birth.

Bebe Nanaki Ji lived from 1464 to 1518, and as such no shrine or place of worship had ever been constructed in her honour until through Guru's divine guidance Bibi Balwant Kaur Ji (Bibi Ji) was lead to her actual place of residence which Bibi Ji rediscovered in Sultanpur Lodhi and a large Gurdwara in her name was errected and Gurdwara Bebe Nanaki Ji, Sultanpur Lodhi came into being in 1970. The Gurdwara took many years to complete and Bibi Ji involved a large mass of sangat to take part in the huge project. (More history of the actual Gurdwara can be seen in the Gurdwara Section)

The Gurdwara at Sultanpur Lodhi went on to serve not only as a place of worship and support locally, but formed the base for many charitable projects lead by Bibi Ji in India. As notariety within the global sangat grew of the charitable work being done under the Bebe Nanaki Ji banner, more and more sangat were inspired and lead by Bibi Ji to take a share in the mass seva being done.

Bibi Ji later moved from India to the UK in the late 70's however the charitable work did not stop it escalated more, and thus as more and more sangat started to gather regularly Gurdwara Bebe Nanaki Ji, Birmingham UK was established in 1978 and thereafter also became a base for many charitable projects which spaned the globe.

Today Gurdwara Bebe Nanaki Ji, Birmingham UK is run and managed by Bebe Nanaki Charitable Trust, a registered UK Charity and continues to herald the founding mission to help the needy regardless of caste colour or creed and to serve as a place of worship. The Trust also has several sister charitable bodies which individually look after specific charitable projects in various parts of the world.

The Gurdwara is renowned not only for its charitable efforts but within the wider Sikh Community as the Gurdwara has its very own  established Jatha which was setup by Bibi Ji many years ago. Bebe Nanaki Jatha is made up of nishkam sevadhars who selflessly take part in all walks of seva and kirtan and encourage others to live by the strong Sikh edict of Simran, Seva, and to Share.
